Winter School Programme

Led by top experts in their fields of scientific research, CryoSCOPE Partners are hosting 3 winter schools over the course of the project. These 1-week winter schools are intense multidisciplinary courses that offer PhD and Master students the opportunity to learn more about the biological organisms and coupled ecosystem processes within northern terrestrial and freshwater environments during the seasonal setting of winter.

The three winter schools planned for the CryoSCOPE project include:

1. Oulanka winter school, organized by OULU in Oulanka, Finland, in winter 2026

2. Snow Science Winter school, organized by FMI in Sodankylä, Finland, in winter 2027

3. Snow modeling school, organized by IIT Madras, India, in winter 2028

The courses are designed as a blend of lectures and excursions to discover field research that conclude with group-based project work where the students get exposed to working in the field under challenging winter conditions and present their own results based on the data collected during the respective winter school.
